The High Street is back to normal and there's been an immediate uplift in trade at Mr. Books. Could just be the weather or Spring being in the air but I reckon it's more than a coincidence....
btw keen observers will note the spelling of "Pedestrianisation" or should that be "Pedestrianization" Look I run a bookshop so surely I can indulge in a little pedantry now and then!

Just goes to show what tinkering with the running of the town can do to trade. I hate to think what affect allowing a mega Sainsburys will have on existing businesses with its instore shops etc and the disruption to the town for at least 2 years when the build would take place.
But maybe it wont happen since planning was meant to be in by last December and as supermarkets in general are having a rethink and seem to be moving away from building more mega stores and are using the shop local format as their expansion option.
My suspicions about Sainsburys were true the local paper has reported today (Tuesday) that they have pulled out. Maybe Morrisions will now come to the SeeTar site in Value Road.
Look like you are not telling me an April Fool joke Anon http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kent-business/county-news/sainsburys-pulls-out-of-regeneration-15154/
I must admit I thought this post was an April Fool joke when I first read it but no its true and now being widely reported. A bit of my wonders if Sainsbury's always had a serious plan B (which they will now implement)to extend their store into Beale's who already re assigned their lease to Sainsbury's as part of the redevelopment plans.
