Saturdays in Tonbridge....

This morning I could have gone to the market in the railway carpark for some fruit and veg or spices, I could have sat with a friend for coffee in Finch House or any of the other cafes in the High Street. I could have gone for a naughty but satisfying fry up at that little cafe down Avebury Avenue or wandered across the wide open spaces of the park or taken a stroll along the river near the Town Lock. I didn't do any of those things this morning but you still could....

And if you are 16 to 19 you can get a bus and leave town. Today,
Kent County Council’s Cabinet has given the green light to a plan for students aged 16 to 19 to get bus travel for £10 per week.

Sounds like those of us between the ages of 20 and 59 are the only ones actually paying fares on the buses!

Oh well, only three years to go before I get my free pass - if they haven't been scrapped by then!

I have just got my buss pass a year late. The government have moved the age to 61. (further out again by the the time you are there Paul.) Young peoples minimum wage has been frozen this year. There is nothing that Labour did for social cohesion that cannot be undone by this government.

Old people always seem to live in the past. I suppose that's why they usually vote Conservative. Nostalgic, I imagine, for victorian values and deference to the rich and priviledged.

Bus tickets for a £10 a week for 16 to 19 old from KCC is not the bargain it seems. First of all you have to fork out £520 in one hit. Then if you only need it in term time there are only 40 weeks to pay for. I think that you can find season tickets already at this price. An annual Tonbridge bus pass is £470.
