Post you comments about Tonbridge....

There, that ought to keep you going for a bit. But if you feel the urge to comment then do so below if you have anything to say about Tonbridge places and people, or anything to moan about, to shout about, to write home about. Get it off your chest, it's quite a good feeling actually....

Have quite a bit to get off my chest, but you'll have to wait a day or so, as I'm off out tonight for a few beers!!

How about the state of the Rpse and Crown! Sitting opposite the best row of shops in town, the Rose and Crown is heading for the grot spot award of the High Street! While Tunbridge Wells harps on about being Royal based on a dubious claim that Royalty visited, here in Tonbridge Queen Victoria did frequently stop over at the Rose and Crown! Well she would not be amused at the state of the place these days, it's a positive dump! Indeed it's outrageous the owners have let it get like this. And if anyone is thinking of a Christmas dinner there, don't bother, they dish up disgusting food as well! Yes and their chairs are worn out and uncomfortable too!

Outraged, one assumes from your post about the Rose and Crown you are:A an ex employee who left under a cloud B Under 18 and or have an ASBO and hence have been banned?
Seriously I went in there last week, its fine.

There are a lot more serious concerns about at the moment than the condition of the Rose & Crown.

For a start there is the increasing "nannying" and "hectoring" by the organs of the state, lecturing us in an insulting and patronising manner, trying to dictate and control how we live our lives.

Smokers have already been targetted by the "health fscists" of the nanny state", and made to feel like pariahs, even though they are indulging in a perfectly legal and, for them, enjoyable pursuit. Big government now has drinkers well and truly in its sights, along with motorists (high taxes on petrol, congestion charging, speed cameras etc).

The next target will be anyone who enjoys the occasional fry-up, or doesn't eat their so-called "five-a-day".

What nonsense! Providing we are not breaking the law, it is not the job of government to tell us how to conduct our lives. This
is not the function or purpose of government, and yet every day we are bombarded by distorted messages in the media, all aimed at the government's aim of more and more state control of our lives.

We have already lost the right to free speech in this country. It is time fot the citizens of England to wake up to what is really going on in this country, before we all sleep walk into the nightmare of a totalitarian state!

I think you're right. Although, of course the hectoring has been going on for a few decades now.
I don't think the government are that keen on people gathering in one place and talking to each other, so they're slowly phasing out pubs, and yet lowering the price of booze in supermarkets, so you can always sit indoors in front of the telly with a bottle of wine and not do any harm to anyone, least of all the government. In Tonbridge, since I've been living here, I know of at least ten pubs that have closed. Not just closed, but totally eradicated and turned into either some posh, expensive, useless "bistro", or a block of flats. What's the difference? Unless you're someone who actually likes posh, expensive bistros rather than a local pub.
Smokers being targeted is just national hipocracy really..We all know it's bad for you..although I think it costs about £7 for a packet of twenty, and yet the real value is about 50p? The rest is tax. I'm sure they care about us and want us all to stop. We're all filthy animals, and yet we probably keep the National Health going.
I like a fry up, so bollocks to em...

Yes sebfox, rather than have us socialising with our fellow human beings down the pub, the government would prefer us all to be sat at home in fromt of the tele, watching dross like X-Factor and I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

Even better if we're sipping our regulation half pint of shandy a night, along with our low fat, low taste, Jamie Oliver approved, "traffic light" labelled, healthy option food.

Mind you, this wouldn't be the first government to try and stop people meeting together. Back in the 18th Century, the government of the day tried to close down the coffee houses, as they were used as meeting places by the radicals and free-thinkers of the day. Nothing much changes really!

Try the Cardinals Error for a bit of free thinking and expression, sadly as said the price of a pint is outrageous but that's life. It's at least better than the meeting place for the socially disadvantaged, (Weatherspoons). And the Cardinals Error serves a good Tonbridge Ale, try Coppernob if its on.

Was in the Cardinal's Error on Tuesday night, Outraged. Didn't try the Tonbridge Coppernob, but my friends said it was good. Stuck with the Harveys myself, which was also in fine form and quite reasonably priced at £3.20 a pint. (Ok, it's dear compared to Wetherspoons, but it's a much nicer atmosphere there, and a fine, old, historic building as well).
