Roadworks update....

...why are most drivers still ignoring the 20mph speed limit along Tonbridge High Street? Are the signs clear enough? Tonbridgeblog suggests maybe not!...

the signs are clear enough there's just no reinforcement. Same goes with the (non) right turn into Medway Wharf road...

No so Brett. 20 mph zones generally have large "20" signs painted on road at frequent intervals. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm sure you probably will, but if you turn right out of Bank Street, as I frequently do, to go towards the Railway Station, there is no indication of it being a 20 zone until you reach the 30 sign at the library roundabout. Not good enough I would suggest....

ah - apologies - only noticed the big '20's' on the road at the avebury avenue end of town so presumed they were at each end. bit daft then if they are not... saying that though, there is a no right turn sign and paint on the road at medway wharf road that is ignored. drivers will do what they want anyway until there is some enforcement/unfortunate accident....

Both ends of the High Street have 20mph signs and I know that there is one in East Street. So to get into Bank Street its most likely you have to use the High Street and would have passed a sign. ( you can use Lansdowne Road).
Put in speed cameras, they will pay for themselves and more, job done.

actually, Mr Books, I travelled along highstreet yesterday and think the bank street junction is the only one joining the highstreet that does not have a big '20' painted on it. However, as anonymous above said, you'd have to of passed at least one 20 sign to be in that position in the first place. A single sign at each end should be enough and agree about the cameras - the 'improvements' were meant to encourage pedestrians - selfish, ignorant drivers ignoring the rules won't help that (although whether the improvements help out in the long run remains to be seen)

I know where all the 20mph signs are. here are every 100 yrds on The Drive, Deakin Leas and adjacent roads. KCC, if you can saturate this area with signs you certainly can put more in Tonbridge High Street.

Is that right that long established Bonners is to become a Fuggles? Just when Mojos is to shut with the people running it saying there are not enough drinkers in the town.

Not sure that Fuggles Beer, Whiskey and gin Café and Mojos would stand up to comparison....
