Tonbridge Police Station...

Walking past Tonbridge Police Station about 8-30pm last night I couldn't help but notice that there was a huge mound of dog shit right outside the, by then closed, station entrance. Whilst tutting to myself at the blatant disrespect that this filthy act showed I then noticed that the "Kent Police" sign post had a large wet patch at its base. In fact, by the looks of things, so many dogs, and probably humans, had pissed up against this that the metal has corroded. Yes these are wanton acts of disrespect and vandalism, not to mention unhealthy, but I can't help wondering if these mindless idiots would be so free with theirs and their dogs toilet habits if the boys in blue bothered to keep the Police Station desk manned 24/7 instead of closing about tea time. Someone ought to let them know that quite a lot of crime happens at night! Discuss....

So you would like to spend an extra upwards of £5 millions pa across Kent so that the causal passer by can call in to the police station. Better that the police are on patrol and able to go to the trouble spots outside of the station, to sort out the drunks and boy racers to be fond in the car parks.

You disappear for two whole months, and then surface with a non-story about a pile of dog shit and ask people to discuss it.

There’s been a lot happening in the town, as well as in the world at large. Is this the best you can come up with? Time to go back to sleep again!

Well PB, after this comment, were I a more vindictive sort, I might well encourage you to go and eat the said excrement! And you wonder why I don't bother half the time (alright most of the time, before you pipe up again.)

PS PB... and I'm disappointed you think that total disrespect for our law and order officers and station is not a point for discussion. You certainly regarded the potential for a new Fuggles in the town as worthy given the number of comments. Maybe your mind has become fuggled with all that strong ale you're on most of the time!!..

In my 50 years of adult life I have never had the need to go into a police station but on a few occasions I have given then a ring. I think can also contact them on twitter and whereas 50 years ago they just had a few panda's now they all seem to have patrol cars.
But what could be a problem for the cars in Tonbridge is the congestion caused by the so called improvements to the High Street. When are KCC coming back to move the offending bus stop into a lay by and for safety sake when are they going to put the crossing back by Smiths? With the PO being moved into Smiths (and the local MP's campaign wont stop it) the crossing here is essential.
But KCC are planning to remove the bus stops from outside of the Station and add one more in front of Lidl. Don't KCC know that the Lidl bus stops are used for buses waiting between journeys, vans delivering to the shops, there is nowhere else for them to stop, and blue bade holder and the cheeky car drivers going to the shops. The florist and Laundry owners must be livid by the proposal. This is just a recipe for tailbacks to and snarl ups at the Quarry Hill roundabout especially when 20 buses arrive within 30 mins at school going home time.
So have you had a look at these proposals TB after all congestion will drive shoppers out of the town?

I was poking you TB to see if you’d react; and you did. Good! I’m sure you have your reasons for not posting anything for eight weeks or so, but as I said earlier a lot has been happening in both Tonbridge and the world, and your readers/followers might have expected some comments from a blog which purports to “Reflect the events, views and opinions of people in your town.”

In a comment on your last post, you admit “letting down the dwindling readership” of Tonbridge Blog, so to come back with a story about dog excrement is something of a disappointment, to put it mildly.

Anonymous is correct to point out the potential problems caused by KCC’s latest hare-brained scheme, and the proposal to move the town’s only Post Office into WH Smith is lunacy.

Our local MP appeared on the Sunday Politics Show, last weekend to argue the case against this cost-cutting exercise, but I fear anonymous is correct and the move will take place anyway, regardless of local feeling and obvious strong opposition.

The dog **** is the tip of the iceberg.

The issue here is the lack of self-respect/civic pride that some people have. This is nothing new and is not unique to Tonbridge.

Keeping the police station open longer is unlikely to change this mindset - some people just cannot be helped.

Perhaps you can start a name and shame campaign. I would happily return a steaming turd to the dogs owner if I caught them in the act.

agree about the above Anon. Taking the kids to school through woodlands walk is like walking through a minefield of dog shit...

anyway on other notes - lights turn on at weekend, new maccy Ds and M and S, nothing happening at Homebase site? Planned development to rail station and riverside walk, A21 delays and the knock on effect on traffic in high street. Roadworks at high street so soon after completion... Chequers shutting, fuggles opening.... Lots going on in town at present...

So Tonbridge. the town with two Greggs, two Poundland and soon two Macdonalds, may soon be getting the Clockhouse to join the Bakehouse, the Gatehouse and even Finch House. Looks like it maybe another of those outlets for craft beers, who needs Fuggles? But another traditional boozer looks like it will hit the dust - the Nelson. And haven't a couple of other high street restaurants closed. There's only so much leisure spending power in the town.

well, the Gatehouse is marketed as a 'craft beer' house but the opening pictures I saw of the bar showed Fosters, Estrella and Guinness so, hardly craft... There are a number of pubs that have closed around my end of town (North) - Red House, Bishops Oak, Greyhound - not sure if they differ from the Nelson much - they were all pretty drab and run down... However, think the real blow to these was that people don't simply have money to 'nip to the local' anymore - it's more of an 'event' to go to the pub so these places that rely on the drip, drip feed of local custom do not get the required visitors anymore. Places close to the centre like Man of Kent and George and Dragon do seem to be busy on many nights though so there is still a desire to head there if the pubs are nice, welcoming places to visit... Agree about Greggs though but, they wouldn't be open if people didn't shop there so there must be demand? Poundland x2 is a hangup from the purchase of 99p store isn't it? And maccy-Ds opening on industrial estate may drag some of that customer, delivery noise and litter away from centre so could be a good thing? As for the limited spending power for leisure - well there are constant new developments going up in and neat the centre - it is just catering for the influx of people? ...sorry - just read back and seems I ranted a little long :-)

supposed to read 'near' the centre, not 'neat'... no edit button...
