Tonbridge Half Marathon Latest....

I've just heard that the Tonbridge Half Marathon, taking place on Sunday September 23rd is booked to its capacity of 1,300 runners. That's amazing as the event is only in its second year and they've actually allocated 300 more places this year compared with last. Alas those Tonbridge Blog readers who will be turning out in droves to see Yours Truely will be disappointed this time round. My sweaty red face and jelly like legs will be otherwise engaged, probably sitting in my canoe or perhaps just doing a little gardening or going for a strole to the pub. You see since opening Mr. Books # 2 I just haven't had time to do any serious training so my target time of sub two hours and the chance to have a medal placed around my neck by Saint Kelly of Hildenborough will just have to be put on hold for another 12 months. As Arnie once said though: I'll be back!...

And we all thought your relative silence on the blogging front was due to your being out training for this event.

"As Arnie once said though: I'll be back!"..... Yes, like a bad penny!

Seriously TB, your lack of regular posting is leading to the Tonbridge Blog becoming a bit of a non-event. Surely there is some piece of trivia you can bore, sorry enthral, us with? So long as it's no more silly stories about Kelly Holmes being elevated to the ranks of the sainthood!

ps. Do you get much spam? If not why not remove that wretched Captcha gadget. I'm sure I'm not the only person who has trouble deciphering it, and it's presence may well explain the recent lack of comments on your blog.

I agree with Paul. Can't we have a captcha sysyem that is very slightly easier to read. I sometimes give up when it keeps rejecting me.

it's done it again. second try...

Oh, for goodness sake. Trying again.....

What is this strange Captcha thing of which you speak? Is some evil trick by witches and dark forces? Oh stop winging you technophobes and go on twitter like everyone else!...

Do mine eyes deceive me, is it a trick of perspective? or is that a bloody large pint you're holding there PB?!..

I think the relative lack of comments is probably mainly down to my stopping the anonymous comments. This was to put a halt on some of the spiteful bilge that used to occasionally appear here. If people want to make comments they can at least think up a "handle" and register on google. It's still anonymous if they want it to be but, clearly, it has put some off. Also it doesn't help if I don't post regularly either but I have been pretty busy what with the new shop and all. I'll do me best in future and you can always read "My Shout" in the Tonbridge Town Crier if you want more punishment!

Having seen PB in Wetherspoons the other day, I have to tell you he's actually only 18 inches tall....

So now you've had a pop at the little people, who's next on your hitlist? The chubbies?
Honestly I despair when a man of your standing and calibre thinks he can just ride rough shod over any unfortunate minority he feels like...You never stopped to think that might be just a half pint glass he's holding there did you?
I'm outraged, and so is the Lilliput Defence League...How dare you!!!

TB, the large drinking vessel I am holding is a Mass, which is a litre of beer. People often mistakenly refer to them as "Steins", but Stein is German for "stone".

The correct name for these glasses is a Mass Krug. Whilst they look very macho, they're not especially practical, being rather heavy, and unless one drinks quickly, the beer tends to warm up, particularly in hot weather.

They're also not the most sensible measure to be swigging beer from as by the time one's finished the first Mass, and is halfway through the second, (the first slips down all too easily!), the efects of the first glass are starting to kick in. In other words it's very easy to over-indulge with this size of drinking vessel, but great fun when there's a whole crowd of you caught up in the infectious atmosphere of Munich's famous Hofbrauhaus, (which is where the photo was taken).

Because of that wretched Captcha gadget it's just taken me several goes to get the above comment published! It's all well and good stopping the anonymous comments, but wouldn't comment moderation be a better solution, especially for those of us whose eyesight is not what it once was?

Here we go again - "Please prove you're not a robot"

Blast, the characters I entered didn't match the word verification. Please try again.

I get the same problem. It usually takes at least three attempts, sometimes more. It's nothing to do with "technophobia", it's just too hard to make any sense of it, and my eyesight's ok.

have to agree re the comments on captcha - it does seem unnecessarily tough.cIt also has very poor grammar it is asking me to type "the two words" but one is a number (685) and the other is just random letters (nidnwhi)
