Snow joke continued....

Now we've all had great fun this week walking, and sledging, in a winter wonderland and all that and my wellies have had more use in the last few days than ever before, but come on now council the joke's over. Just clear the snow off all the side roads and put some grit down, preferably before the ice starts to compact itself into a three inch layer again. It's funny that you missed the weather forecasts because, here was me thinking that, we all knew about the freeze from about ten days before. While you're at it, for future reference, can you try and remember that there are some shops in Bank Street and Castle Street and it would be quite handy, if you could find a minute, to put a little grit down to make it accessible for customers and the like. Only, that is, if you're not too busy sorting out the roads of Kings Hill....

First time in 19 years our little road hasn't been gritted. Last winter they were gritting it at the hint of a frost. Is someone a little short of money ?

A colleague had told me that you did not have to pay in the car parks if the markings are covered up by snow etc. Knowing T&M I thought this was probably too good to be true so I checked with them before risking an unwelcome Christmas gift from the traffic warden (or whatever they call themselves). It was too good to be true. I was reliably informed by email that normal charges apply. Given that "ice rink" would be a better description of Castle Fields car park I think this is scandalous. I don't think they have put down any grit at all and made no effort to make it safer.

Someone told me that the only grit in the Sainsbury's car park was by the ticket machines!

Given that buses use Castle Street and Bank Street, it seems very strange that they have done nothing there. Possibly it is down to a lack of money, but more likely the lack of any brain cells amongst our favourite council officers!

Scrooge (before his visitations) would be proud of T&M Council. Bah, humbug!

It's all a joke. This country is a joke. Now Germany - well they have it all in the bag. Not the grit of course that's on every street. We have a lot to learn.

I think you will find that its not down to T&M to take care of the roads its down to KCC. The KCC leadership have visions of grandeur and even have a commercial enterprises division that runs a bus co, temp agency, landscape gardening and many more companies that compete with private enterprise. They also spend our money for political ends like Kent TV and Kent HealthWatch (costs £600 per telephone call they received).
So it not suprising that last winter they were out cutting our grass verges using one of their own companies (do you cut your lawn in December/ January?). They do spend a lot on highways but much of this has gone on new depots, new IT systems. What they realy needed was a few more gritting lorries. If you dont like the way our money is spent just remember at the next county electionscbut you have a long wait for the next one.

I slipped on the ice today - ouch! Felt like a right plonker.
