Most Horrible House in Tonbridge....

I see from reading the Slade Area Residents Association newsletter (always a treat!) that they will be holding their annual Halloween competition. I love the way the community around this area of Tonbridge get into the spirit (geddit) of things. The basic idea is that people dress and light up their houses with ghoolish and scarey things. Prizes are given out, at the judges discretion, for the most "Horrible Houses!" So if you're of a nervous disposition steer clear of the old, some say haunted, part of town next Monday night. Get your competition forms from head witch Kathie Foster Smith!...

It may seem like good fun to some but many alone elderly folk do not like to be greeted by sinister looking visitors at their door after dark. And its not just young children accomplied by their parents that do the rounds but older children on the make.

sebfox got it spot on.

I guess it will get banned one day, just like we've been banned from just about everything else. It's against the law to have any fun whist living in the UK.

So Anon 7.50 tell us what fun things you have been banned from doing?

I don't mean to be a killjoy. Maybe I just come across that way, but last halloween my elderly mother, (she's now 89) got an envelope through the door containing dog shit, as did three of her neighbours, presumably because she, and they, wouldn't open their doors to a group of hoodies wearing masks and screaming trick or treat through the letterbox at ten oclock at night.
I wouldn't mind, but it's not even ours is it? Ten years ago, halloween was noticed, but not particularly celebrated. What the hell is going on in this country when we have November 5th all to ourselves, and yet we feel we have to copy the yanks and start doing halloween as well, and buy stupid costumes and masks..and stick a f**king pumpkin in the window. You can bet your life that the kids who go out trick or treating will be asking for "candy" instead of sweets. You can't even get a medium coffee anymore you have to have a f*cking "regular" one!!!

Seemed like a very fair question in response to:Anonymous Anonymous said...

What exactly are we banned from in this country that they're not banned from in America? Or anywhere else in the world?
