Town Centre "Regeneration" Update....

How's that regeneration of the High Street coming on? Tonbridge blog has only heard people moaning on about how inconvenient it is having to drive around the back on the town centre or how much trade they're losing as a result. So it would be nice to hear if anyone approves of them or thinks that the upheaval will be worth it. Comments please....

"Regeneration" is a misnomer, its nothing more than rearranging the layout of the High Street no new facilities to the town. It will probably put existing non resident visitors off and may attract a few new ones to see what the £2.7 fuss was about. But they wont come back. The narrowing of the High Street will create tail backs all day and every day no way to pass illegally parked cars and lorries. No point in having a 20mph limit, you wont be able to go any faster, motorist will just have to follow cyclist in a straight line. It will be a bit difficult for the emergency services with their blue lights to put their foot down.
I think the councils idea is for businesses to pay a fee and put tables and chairs outside on the wider pavements. But apart from smokers who wants to eat/drink in the open in one of the most polluted high streets in the country?
A council that thought that major retailers and cinema chain would come to the town as part of the Sainsburys take over of the town need to come up with a plan that embraces falling high street sales, increasing online sales and growing leisure activities. As part of this development TMBC said that the Angel centre was not fit for purpose so why is there no plan to replace it?

Yes, why not? Whitstable is the new Southwold. What with all those nouveau riche, second home owners from London, you could really clean up.

Actually I'm from the East Coast, much further up, so might feel at home there. Probably wouldn't get that much for your money though; housing wise I mean. I could eat oysters 24/7 and walk along the beach. I quite fancy one of those beach huts as well... hang on. You lot trying to get rid of me??!
