Don't mention John Adams Bookshop....

I'm not saying a word about John Adams having already had not one but two "Closing Down" sales in the last year and then staying open yet again. I could mention that this time they have changed their name to My Back Pages but the owner is the same and I know that they only have another six month lease anyway and presumably they'll have another closing down sale in March again next year. But I won't mention it! Afterall it doesn't really effect me now does it...

These shop keepers are up to all the tricks. I found a cooker I intended to buy in Currys for £549 at the start of september. When I when to actually buy at the end of september it was £799! Its just been in their cooker sale advertised as 30% off at £549. I bought it for £509 online. What a con. Was it legal trading?

I'm afraid the old John Adams bookshop or whoever it is now is really just an excuse for a bookshop. They carry a very minimal amount of titles and the atmosphere isn't welcoming simply because of layout and stacking. Mr Books, however, is like a treasure box and minutes spent sifting through all the amazing titles is far more preferable.

Anon. I would but I don't think it would work when the rent is £32,500 plus high business rates. But watch this space!...

What's all the bitter feelings regarding John Adams? It's just a book shop. I suppose he's trying to get by the same as you, or, the same as any of us.
If I were in your position, Mr. Books, I would use the bandwidth, available from my server and set up a website. On that website you could advertise everything you had in stock, simply by listing, and publishing the titles. If you don't have what a customer wants, then make it clear you can get it for him, if he's patient. Set it up as a collectors site. Maybe you're already doing that? I don't know.
Keep the shop, because when you become well known throughout the world as the man who can get you the book that you want, your shop will be like a kind of mecca of the book-- world. People will do pilgrimages from all over the earth just to visit your shop. It'll be like a holy place to collectors of books. The shop where it all started: a little place in Bank Street, Tonbridge.
Hey just trying to be optimistic.
Seriously though, it might be worth a try.

"Don't mention John Adams Bookshop... "Delia you are just sour because " Delia Xmases" are a thing of the past! You damn Mr Books with very faint praise - "minutes spent sifting through " doesn't command the same respect as, say, " I could happily spend hours in there" but at least you are honest. Mr Books could have moved into John adams but didn't have the blogogs, Instead we had t'trouble at't'Tonbridge with the good folks of said town in a mighty throng ( or was it just one Folk in a tightish thong?)marching to the TRADING STANDARDS OFFICE to stem these pernicious Closing Down Sales which threatened anew the World Economy and made Amazon shares plummet! And lo the TS officers came, they saw, they said "sorry for troubling you". Puts the Middle East in context eh?
