No Future for you!!!!

Spurred on by the death of the, maybe not great, but certainly huge figure of Malcolm McLaren TonbridgeBlog asks: Is there a future for this little town of ours? The town's changed alot since the punk days of the mid 70's so what will be the scene in another thirty or so years? Will the Angel Centre be at last torn down as the council realises its collosal mistake in allowing it planning permission in the first place? Will the, almost forgotten town centre strategic plan to revitalize the Botany area and the riverside ever come to fruition? Will there ever be a town museum that we can all be proud of? Will the Transport Hub status that Tonbridge has had bestowed on it ever result in a revamped railway station compex thus realising the area's huge potential to become a major shopping centre? And will the dullards suposedly responsible for a vision for the town at least ensure that visitors to the see proper gateways at the North and South ends of the High Street instead of being greeted with crumbling buildings, a badly designed railway station facade and a Poundstretcher! Let us please see some action so that we can all have a Tonbridge to be proud of in the future. We mean it man!...

What's this got to do with Malcolm McLaren?

I never did like punk, or punks. Crap music made by spotty yoofs with safety pins through their nostrils, who couldn't even play their instruments properly!

Surely this post qualifies for the most tenuous link ever?

Sex Pistols God Save The Queen was originally titled 'No Future' PB.
Great post Mr Books, have to agree with everything you said.

I stand corrected, Anonymous. However, the title "No Future" turned out to be a self-fulfilling prophesy for the Sex Pistols, who sank without a trace. Apart from Mr Lydon and his advertisments for Country Life Butter, that is!

ps. I still don't like punk!

Just a little comment here. I am bored with Tonbridge. It offers me nothing anymore. It has steadily gone downhill. I went to school here, moved to London but then came back to bring up my kids here. I shop elsewhere. I socialise elsewhere. I have a coffee elsewhere. I go to Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks or a village to a restaurant. I don't do much at all here anymore. I'll probably move soon and some other hungry family for grammar schools will buy my house and then get bored with Tonbridge Too, It doesn't really have too much going for it anymore.

You're not alone Delia, in being bored with Tonbridge. I have felt the same for a number of years now, and this feeling is always re-inforced when I return after having been away from the place.

The things that stops me moving though, are I like my house and the area it is situated in, and I also know that I can easily escape from Tonbridge, if the mood takes me.

I'm not sure what the answer is, but probably, with a few exceptions, the people of Tonnbridge are its saving grace.

pps. I still do not like punk!!!!!!!

There is no doubt that Tonbridge is a somewhat deprived town and it is definitely in need of a major revamp. I also agree that there is not much to draw people in to the town. However, looking on the bright side, I still believe there is a huge potential for Tonbridge to be a great place - look at some of the positives: good rail-links; good road links; great schools; the river; great recreation ground; some nice looking riverside apartments.
