Tonbridge Flooding....

Without wishing to sound alarmist isn't the Hilden Brook near the Rugby Club and the swimming pool getting a little on the high side? I know we get this every year but it has been known to burst its banks around there and submerge the road near the entrance to the Lower Castle Fields car park. You can't appreciate it very much from the picture but it is flowing really quite fast. It might make for a very quick game of Pooh Sticks if nothing else!...

Nothing to do with flooding.

Yesterday I witnessed a policeman on a motorbike draw up next to a white van as the driver was cruising in the High Street on his mobile phone. He warned him. The driver apologised (of course) - nothing more was said. The policeman drove off in one direction the driver in another.

Only a few days ago my son stupidly briefly answered a call on his mobile telling the caller he couldn't speak as he was driving. A policeofficer drew up beside him cautioned him and he was given a fine and points on his licence.

OK what are the public supposed to think here. I believe both were breaking the law. So if this is the case why the different result? Is the law at the discretion of an officer and if that is the case what does this imply. To be able to pick and choose who to caution and who to warn and on what grounds is that decision made.

The van driver was in his 50's my son is 19. I believe this is the answer.
