Like a lamb to the slaughter....
I loved the story in the Courier today about the Primary School in Folkstone who had the bright idea about teaching their pupils a harsh lesson in reality. They reared a lamb at the school and told them that, when the fluffy animal was old enough, (and presumably fat enough) it would be sent to the slaughter house. Not only that but children and parents would then benefit by being able to buy the choicest cuts of Marcus (yes they even gave him a name) when they were returned from the abbatoir. Whatever you may think about this it apparently resulted in the Head Teacher having to resign, such was the public out cry over the poor lamb. It wasn't just confined to a local campaign either; Paul O'Grady, who used to be known as Lily Savage, proved that he (of is it she) was a big old softy and led a radio campaign to stop Marcus from going under the chopper. By all accounts this was a little severe as The Head appears to have given the children the choice of keeping the lamb as a pet, the children, presumably, opting to vote with their bellies rather than their hearts! I always find lamb a bit too fatty I don't know what you think....

Good to see the Courier is up with all the latest news - This story broke months ago!
This is another example of political correctness winning out over common sense. Where on earth do the outraged parents (and Paul O'Grady)think that lamb comes from - there is a clue in the name!
Surely it is a good lesson to teach children where their food comes from. I bet they have more respect for what they eat now they understand where it comes from.
Everyone should be made to rear and slaughter their own food at some point. Perhaps then people will start buying decent meat and supporting farmers who rear their animals properly.
I can't stand it when people go sentimental over some animals (like kittens, or in this case a fluffy little lamb) but be quite happy to tuck into some chicken etc. Either believe that animals are meat, or be a vegetarian...anything else is just hypocrisy!
This story certainly is old hat, and featured last year on BBC South East Today. Are the Courier that short of news these days that they have to dig up stories from months ago?
Also, what relevance are the happenings down on Romney Marsh to the good people of Tonbridge? (Apart from the moral issues involved, and here I have to agree with both the Tomahawk Kid amd Sunny_Tonny).
I think you'll find the sheep story was an aside to help illustrate the main piece about pigs being slaughtered at Tonbridge School! so it does have relevance to the town you numptys!! haha
