Tonbridge misses out on Olympic Torch route....
I note from press reports yesterday that it's estimated that 95% of the country will see the Olympic torch as it passes through hundreds of towns and villages up and down the land. It's going up and down mountains in the Highlands, it's crossing water in the Lake District, it's travelling on a chair lifts over the Needles on the Isle of Wight, it's abseiling down the Dock Tower in Grimsby, it's coming through Tunbridge Wells, and on to Maidstone, Seal and Sevenoaks. Is it coming through Tonbridge though? Is it heck! By the look of it it's another missed opportunity....

Are you suggesting that the London Olympic Committee has missed the opportunity to visit Tonbridge?
What benefit would they gain from Tonbridge that other towns in Kent give them?
But the torch comming through town is not unique and with many people at work I dont think it would bring much extra trade, maybe the opposite with roads closed for hours just for a 5 minute wonder.
Makes one wonder why so many other towns have been clamouring for it then!
Part of me demands torch action (thumps fist on table) the other part of me could not care less. Not really much of a spectacle is it and I doubt you will see much with the tight security
It's just a pity that the torch will not be passing through the home area of Dame Kelly Holmes, who is, after all, a double gold medal winner. Just seems a bit churlish.
