Stinking Tonbridge....

There's a good piece in the Telegraph today having a moan about how complicated rubbish collection has become. TonbridgeBlog couldn't agree more. Chucking your garbage out used to be so easy: you'd fill up your kitchen bin and, when it piled up to over flowing and you simply couldn't stuff any more in you make one of the kids go out to the wheely bin and throw it in. Nowadays you need a degree in environmental science! You have to file the rubbish according to whether it's plastic, cans, paper, vegetable, books, textiles. Excuse me but isn't life busy enough without all that? Can't the council invest in some machinery to do most of that for us? In the meantime, for our inconvenience of all this unnecessary work, our reward is that our main rubbish bin only gets emptied once a fortnight. Not so much of a problem, though bad enough, through the winter but in a hot summer like we're having, let's face it the bins stink to high heaven! They reek, they pong, they pen and ink, they are deeply unpleasant, even a hyena wouldn't go near most of them. They attract ants, flies and probably a whole host of other poisonous pests. The bins should be emptied every week without fail, it is our right as council tax payers; at the very least Tonbridge and Malling Council (I'm speakng to you now) can't you collect the black bins every week during the summer. There's no wonder the rat population of Britain, and almost certainly Tonbridge, has surged in recent years to the point where they now outnumber people. Please stop this terrible stink before diseases spread....

What you do is buy a 'peely bin' from Lakeland for your kitchen work top, and lob in all the the things that hum (garlic and mussel shells etc.) and put them in the appropriate bin. Black bin week in a tied plastic bag, and green bin week wrapped in a broadsheet (or berliner)

I must get out more often.

Too busy to sort your rubbish? If you've got enough time on your hands to write a blog than you've got enough time to separate your rubbish and do your bit for the environment!

Is it really doing ones bit for the environment though? Where's the evidence for that? Granted it gives you a nice warm feeling to be a do gooder but what about the increase in the vermin population? Does that help the environment? Does the manufacture of around 40 milion, in the UK alone, green and brown plastic non-biodegradable wheely bins help the environment? Or could it be a matter of commercial interest and tokenism? Open your eyes....

Where's the evidence?? Recycling one glass bottle saves enough energy for you to use your computer for 25 minutes. Making paper from recycled material uses 70% less energy. Etc etc. As for the "vermin" I don't have any problems with this myself - doesn't your bin have a lid??
I think people need to stop making excuses and do their bit, otherwise our grandchildren will look back at this generation and wonder why we all sat on our bums and let is happen.

I am thinking of renaming my house 'Bin View' because so many of my neigbours leave their unsightly bins on display. Why can't they put the bloody things away.
In some parts of mainland europe householders are fined if they leave bins out other than on collection day.

In Exeter were I used to live you could put nearly everything for recycling and then their employees used to sort them in a massive recycling unit. Because of that they took more types of rubbish to recycle rather than just paper, card and food waste - for example they'd also take plastic and glass.

i think so this time TB is right... its not that he doesnt want to recycle or care about nature, simply you think that you open a tin of some gravy or something then acording recycling point of view you have to remove paper sticker from that tin, than you will have to put your onions or garlic skin in seprate bin, if you have used coriander or fresh rosmerry then that plastic bag will be in seprate bin, and have bought your breaD FROM greegs than another bin for your paper bag, so for a 5 minute job you will need 4 to 5 different kind of bins, and i dont know about anybody but for sure not in my kitchen or garden 5 different kind of bins,

and if you are saing that its easy to recycle then its rubbish as you think

i will explain, news paper and paper bag is made of trees and some sort of fibers from geo waste. so why do you need a bin for paper, cardboard and bio waste.
lets go to tin recycling --- do you even have ideas how much they are worth, a container of 20 ft which will carry appx 18 tons of alluminium EMPTY BEER CANS --- WITHOUT PULL RING ON TOP OF IT--- will cost nearly 20000 gbp,,
a same size container for still container will cost nearly 12000 gbp,

council people are smart, what they do they ask you to seprate all the waste and charge you through council tax and sell all those freely collected and seprated materials to big buyers as a recycled material.

legaly its recycling, but financialy its multi billion pound business worldwide.
thats why council charge you for not reecycling properly because they have to do it

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT THAT IF COUNCIL INVEST SOME MaCHINES and hire some people to sort out waste, WONT IT CREATE MORE JOBS, I RECON an everage per council atleast 200 jobs. WHY DONT YOU THINK OTHER SIDE

have you ever paid for your old car to scrap? has any0once collected your car for free TO RECYCYCLE? why why would anybody come to you in the big truck and pick it up for free????

now baLL Is in your side
