Not wishing to go on about electric bikes too much here is a copy of the email I've just sent to Halfords having looked at their web site and been surprised that they don't appear to sell ANY electric bikes:
"Hello, I'm suprised to see that Halfords aren't at the forefront in driving forward electric bike sales. Surely these machines are a major part of the future solution to transport problems in Europe and the wider world. Are there any plans in the pipeline at Halfords to sell an affordable, good looking, light weight, longer range selection of e-bikes? People who live in hilly areas would be encouraged to ride more without dreading having to struggle up those steeper ones, school children would be attracted to them giving them greater independence, commuters would love them and would get to work quicker and cheaper, town centres would eventually be unblocked as riders see the benefits of not sitting for hours wasting their lives in traffic jams. What's not to like?! But they need to be affordable! I'd love to hear your views,
Best Regards

I used to ride one of these when I lived abroad. Brilliant and needs next to nothing fuel wise. Not sure the electric bike would be any better after all electricity isn't as green as you may like to believe.
It's good to know you are championing the green cause. How about being the green representative of Tonbridge?
Can't do that as we have very good representation already with the very conscientious Dawes. Hazel and Steve have flown the Green Flag (no not the breakdown insurance company!) for many years in Tonbridge now. In fact I believe that Steve, amongst his other roles for the party, is Greens MEP, Caroline Lucas' publicity secretary. I'd green with envy maybe!
I hear you've been visiting Cycles UK in search of electric bikes too. I have eyes and ears everywhere!
spode: I'm impressed with you super human powers. Or was it that TonbridgeBlog met your flatmate at the Slade school summer fete on Sat. I understand that he and Cycles UK were performing (is that the right word) amazing feats on bmx bike ramps. I got there late and missed it all of course as I could get out of my shop in time (yes even bookshops get busy some times!) Anyway Twitter mate Spode is the time right yet to open a Tonbridge electric bike centre? And can TBlog have one of your cast off e-bikes to keep, I mean do a long term test on?!..
