I don't know about you, but I can't help thinking that there a few too many of these so called community websites jumping on the band wagon. Often, whilst they claim to be community sites, they are nothing more than nationally or regionally run with no other purpose than to lift money out of small businesses and retailers. thebestof tonbridge seems to be one such example with nice looking pages but very little substance in Tonbridge blog's opinion. It's really just "the best of" brand, after which you could put the name of any town. The Tonbridge.com seems a little more in tune with the local community, but, once again, they seem to make no secret of being, basically, an ad-get site. This site is a bit harder on the eye than the best of... with lots of flashing lights and things popping out at you, but you do get the feeling that whoever produces it does at least know the area. At the end of the day they are really just the modern equivalent of those free sheets, full of inserts, which take you about ten seconds to read before you chuck it on the recycling pile. It's a shame that there isn't a virtual recycling pile for some of these efforts. You see, at the end of the day, you just can't beat content. Readers and viewers aren't fools, if there is no useful. up-to-date information and a mix of local pictures, comment and stories they will, quite literally, switch off. Are there any better ones, or worse for that matter out there....
