A21 Vauxhall extension given go ahead....

The A21 dual carriage way section between Vauxhall Lane in Tonbridge and Castle Hill has apparently been given the go ahead after years, if not decades, of prevaricating. I think this is good news for the town as a whole. It's not so good if you happen to live in one of the cottages along the proposed new road route though, which will obviously be subject to compulsory purchase. Tonbridge blog also hopes that the council, Highways authorities and road builders will adopt a sensible approach when laying the new road surface. Please let them have learnt the lessons of using inferior materials instead of new low noise surfaces. The residents of Molescroft Way and the surrounding area will no doubt back me up on this one. They should look at other measures also to help to reduce noise and air pollution such as a reduced speed in the section running past the Brindles Field and Hilltop housing estates. A fifty limit would maybe serve to keep speeds down to the legal 70. At least the residents of Tonbridge will soon be able to get to the North Farm retail park traffic jam in record time!...

I'll believe the dualling of the A21 between the Vauxhall roundanout and Pembury when it happens. There's been far too many false dawns in relation to this long overdue project, so who's to say some government oik won't put another spanner in the works.

I have to say that I don't always believe that building new roads is necessarily the right solution to traffic problems, but in this case it most certainly is.

I could have done with this work being completed several years ago, as it would have made my frequent trips to the Cash & Carry, over at North Farm, a lot easier!
