We're like canaries in a coalmine: Any Questions....

It turns out that the rumours about there being another Question Time planned for Tonbridge are not quite true; it seems Mr. Dimbleby will not be paying us another visit after all. Tonbridge blog is now pretty sure that the mix up has occurred because there is to be a specially created Any Questions, on an environmental theme to tie in with next weekend's Canaries in a Coalmine project. Ths is a joint intiative between a few Tonbridge schools, the local Green Party and Tonbridge council. Caroline Lucas, MEP for the Green Party, Norman Baker and Peter Ainsworth are among the panelist at the event which will be held in West Kent College this coming Saturday. It's worth clicking on the link above to see what else Tonbridge is to be treated to next weekend. The whole project culminates in an open air, unplugged concert on the Castle lawn where you will see a banner advertising the "Concert to Save the Planet." Rather a bold claim, but noble none the less. Other activities include a lantern procession along the High Street, which starts at 5-30pm from West Kent College car park; has no one told them that it won't be dark at that time and in any case burning candles is using fossil fuels! Another iniative is to play music at recyling sites around the town; they may be in danger of being laughed off as being too querky if they don't get the balance right. I'm being slightly cynical because I'm all in favour of raising awarenes of climate change issues, especially where it involves school age kids; just so long as it's not done in a hypocritical, let's all compare our carbon footprints, tokenistic way....
