Still Keane for Tonbridge....

There's an article on the Grauniad web site today about ex-Tonbridge schoolboy band Keane if anyone's interested. I quite like some of their stuff, but I didn't have any idea about how much they'd gone off the rails with the drugs and alcohol and all that; or is it just one almighty ruse to make the baby-faced public school boys appear more Rock n Roll? We may never know and most of you will probably never care!...

No, couldn't care less really about a group of poncy ex-Tonbridge school boys.

Nor me, bad examples to society.

They are actually quite talented and it's so sad that they seem to have fallen foul to drug addiction that seems to creep like a cancer through the music scene. It just shows it touches musicians from all walks of life.

Why is it sad, no-one puts a gun to their heads and forces them to take drugs! I don't know much about the band, but reading between the lines they come from a priveledged background.
We all have our problems from time to time, it's how we deal with them and react to different circumstances that makes us what we are.

It's their choice to do so. I think they are weak-willed and are giving in to peer-pressure. Exactly, there are loads of ways to tackle their problems and drugs just make it worse. I just don't have time for these types, talented or not. They make their beds..

I agree with you, Paul Bailey, however the music industry in synonomous with drugs and addiction and one has to ask the question why? Nobody has forced these young men to take drugs but what is the reason behind them falling foul of it. Why do so many musicians destroy their lives and the lives of their loved one? What is it in this industry? The answer, if there is one, is probably complex and not as easy as your statement of 'no-one puts a gun to their heads'. Influences encountered through our lives, whether they be emotional, social or cultural make us what we are, and not every human being has the same strengths or weaknesses which is dependent on their place in time and space. I used the word 'sad' because that is what I feel that about the whole situation that has occurred with Keane, but I could equally have used 'sorrowful' or 'somber', 'deplorable' or 'unhappy'. For me I believe it is a sad affair.
