Tonbridge has a Priory?...

HAD a priory more to the point, until the railway builders wrecked what was left of it in the 1840s. Because it was pre photography we can only admire the building from old prints and paintings. I have written about this on other occasions, but I'm always amazed at the number of people I speak to who have no idea that it existed. There is no plaque or sign to mark its position in the town, nothing other than the clues given to us by the names of builidings and street names. St Augustine House, Priory Road, Priory Street, Priory Vet Surgery, Mary Magdalen House Old People's Home to name some of them. Thanks to Shaun Jeffrey's site Tonbridge Collectables for the pic (see his link on the right hand column)....
