Greenwash update....

In the latest Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council Performance and Finance report, issued in a 24 page pamphlet printed on heavy glossy paper stock, they state that a "New Priority" is to "Make a positive local contribution to tackling the causes and effects of climate change." They declare that they will first prepare a new strategy setting out the direct action to be taken etc.... You get the idea. I hope they do something like this and that it is not just hot air and that they aren't just jumping on the greenwash bandwagon because they think they should be seen to be doing something. As mentioned in the previous posting they could start by not wasting endless glossy paper on public relations exercises such as this latest document (which, by the way, cost us, the poll tax community charge payer, money.) The other immediate thing they could do, instead of just talking about it and preparing strategy documents, is to empty the recycling skips more often. I went to recycle some paper at the weekend only to find that the paper skips were not only overflowing, but there was a sea of papers and magazines piled two feet high all around them. No doubt some jobsworth at the council will try to trace the individuals responsible and fine them for illegally dumping waste instead of facing the reality that TMBC, and therefore himself, are not doing their job efficiently enough. They cannot bleat on about forming new strategies if they can't even get the simple things right first....
