Stop showering us with leaflets!...
No I'm not talking about junk mail order companies but our own council. After I'd got over the shock of seeing my household poll tax community charge statement I couldn't help but notice that there was not one but four separate leaflets from the various different services, each one telling me how great they are and how they had outperformed other councils in customer satisfaction surveys and the like. There was one from KCC, another from Kent Police, one from the Fire Brigade, one telling me that I could reclaim if I thought I was paying too much. You get even more with your business rates statement. To get these leaflets printed is not cheap, particularly the one from Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, whose 24 page glossy pamphlet is on fairly high grade paper. Tonbridge blog wonders how many lunches and dinners, paid for by the print suppliers, it took to persaude the pampered council employees responsible for it of the merits of glossy over some lower grade (and alot cheaper) paper. I personally don't mind paying for local services, but object to this over spending on information leaflets. In these days of the internet wouldn't it suffice to have one sheet of paper with all the relevant web site addresses on it so that we'd all save money, the council would save time and resources and we'd all be saving the environment cutting down less trees?...
