Hay fever....

That's Hay on Wye Literary Festival fever! For those of you who have never been and enjoy books and all things literary, or if you just enjoy a lovely friendly, and frightfully middle class, atmosphere, you should make the effort. It's on during the end of May half term week, from May 24th to June 3rd, and there will be hundreds of famous and wanabe famous authors, poets, entertainers, TV presenters and performers there. There's cheap and wholesome food in abundance, loads of activities for the kids, there's around 40 secondhand bookshops, all within a small area, to browse around. On previous trips to Hay I've met Terry Pratchett, Roger McGough, Francesca Simon (Horrid Henry author) Tony Ross (The famous illustrator) and seen dozens of other actors and literary folk. In any other place the traditional story teller, pictured above, would be shooed away as a weirdo, but in Hay he's just part of the street scene! Life's too short not to visit Hay on Wye at festival time at least once; and you can stay in the beautiful Brecon Beacons or Black Mountains national parks, go pony treking, walking, mountaineering, rock climbing, camping, even go on an army assault course if you've got the energy after all the festival activities Look I know it's in Wales, but only just the other side of Offa's Dyke....
